Morley

You are probably here because you are a friend of Illona Haus.  In that case you know Morley’s story.  But if you don’t – I’ll let Illona tell it…

“Meet Mr. Morley - 12+ yrs old; gotten out of rescue at age 9. 

This dog is the sweetest, most easy-going dog I have ever known. He hasn't met a dog or human he doesn't like. 

Over three years now on a raw diet and being able to be off leash has changed this dog's life. He went from complete vaccinosis and seasonal allergies (losing most of his hair) and barely able to keep up with the humans on the trail, to an absolute wild man. In spite of his 3" legs he can now keep up with the wild pointers for long hikes, and still comes home wanting to play with his ball. AND he has learned how to swim, even though he does go under a fair bit. When he first came here, he wouldn't even set foot in a puddle; now you can't keep him out of the water and the swamp mud!

An outgoing, exuberant, brave little man. no mamby-pamby city pooch here! Not no more!"

"Morley has been at the Mississauga Oakville referral clinic since yesterday and won't be home until Friday at the earliest ... and ONLY if everything goes well.

I’m too worn to write all the details ... suffice it to say he's undergoing a pretty serious abdominal surgery today to remove a large mass possibly attached to his spleen.…however, the surgery today is complicated by the fact that Morley’s WBC count and particularly his platelets continue to be low - something I have battled for a long time… not to mention that - yes, I was right - his crucriate is blown on his back leg, and that might require surgery down the road as well.

I know I don't have to ask you all to keep Morley in mind today as he goes through this pretty risky surgery. they're giving him a transfusion of frozen plasma prior to surgery and he'll be in ICU for a few days, monitored closely for bleeding because of his low platelets and poor clotting ability. ... suffice it to say, with the added bone marrow biopsy and the plasma and blood transfusion added to the initial estimate given yesterday, my bill won't be under $5000 at this point. I shake my head as I write this because I have no income this year, no idea where this is going to come from ... AND this doesn't even address Morley’s ruptured cruciate.”
